Virtual Re-identification

Shows new possibilities of face recognition applied not to the physical world but to virtual spaces. The video shows deformations on the digital representation of the artist’s face, attempting to evade a facial recognition system.

The technology is currently applied only to footage from the real world, but is likely to be deployed in virtual spaces soon. An anonymised digital persona — created online — could be re-identified this way. Online anonymity is for many people an important aspect of the virtual realm: do we want our virtual face linked to our real one?
