Falling Items
2024 · generative video projection, Unreal Engine · 959 × 599 cm, 8 min 57 sec, 4K
An endless, generative animation in which objects fall and affect each other — showing the essence of rendered items, characters, and environments from the game industry. The animation spans the evolution of CGI: from the nostalgic simplicity of Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64, 1996) to the hyper-realistic worlds of Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Falling Items reveals how three-dimensional models are made and highlights their complex layering in an era when computer-generated images are indistinguishable from real ones.
Site-specific: the projection fell partially across two corridors of Amare’s foyer, physically interrupting the projection surface. This was integrated into the 3D animation itself — cutouts were made in the digital world so that falling objects stack and bounce within the actual architecture of Amare. The building became a parameter of the work.
